Professional Freestyle Moto X Native Flying High!

May 31, 2007

Cody Cavanaugh a nationally recognized, professional freestyle moto X competitor and native of Neenah awed crowds of youth and area residents recently at the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade in Neenah.  Cavanaugh helped kickoff the fall youth programs at the Brigade. Before performing his high-flying motocross stunts, he spoke to the youth about the importance of good sportsmanship, self initiative, and a positive attitude.  He also emphasized the importance of relationships and making good friends.

Cody travels nationally to FMX contests competing and performing spectacular motocross stunts. His two 20-minute aerial displays, one on Monday night and one on Wednesday, were a first for the Brigade.  After a few practice runs Cavanaugh performed takeoffs and landings with a 70-foot gap between jumps and demonstrated trick after trick for the excited crowd of boy and girl Brigaders along with their parents.  Autograph seekers were pleased both nights when Cody signed t-shirts, posters, and took pictures with the Brigaders.

Cody Cavanaugh paused in front of the crowd at the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade right before he took off from the motorcycle jump that bridged a 70-foot aerial gap.

John Dery, Brigade Executive Director said, “This innovative program for youth demonstrates the Brigade’s intent to bring exciting programs for area girls and boys.”

Miron Construction provided lighting for the show, Associated Bank allowed the use of their parking lot, and Future Neenah shared their safety barrier equipment.

The Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade serves nearly 900 youth in grades 6-12 throughout the Fox Valley with over 500 adult volunteers. The vision of the Brigade is to be the center of excellence for youth character and leadership development.

The Brigade mission is: We Build Leaders. Leadership programs are offered year round with weekly meetings from September through March at the Brigade building located on Columbian Avenue in Neenah, Wisconsin, and from June until September at the Brigade summer camp at Onaway Island located in Waupaca, Wisconsin.
