One in a Million Shot - Brigade female archer rivals Robin Hood
She's not stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, but Julia Scruton landed an arrow that is a one-in-a-million shot. Julia, an 11-year-old sixth grader enrolled in the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade, recently showed just how accurate she can be with her bow and arrow. While participating in the Archery Club, Scruton fired one arrow right into the back end of another already sticking out from the target. The feat, an extreme rarity, is known in the archery world as a "Robin Hood,” especially if the first arrow lands in the bull’s eye.
Jeff Keck, Brigade Archery Club leader was thrilled, “I immediately ran to find a camera and get a picture. I’ve been involved in hunting and archery for over 25 years and I have yet to do this myself, so I’m really proud of Julia.” Jeff Keck has been a volunteer leader in the Brigade Archery Club for the past five years and was a rifle range leader for 15 years. Once he noticed Scruton’s archery skill he encouraged her to aim for more difficult targets, and she would regularly place four out of five arrows in very tight groupings.
Scruton was modest in commenting about her feat, “It was just a lucky shot – more luck than skill. If you can get all your arrows in the same spot it will probably just happen.” As a sixth grader this is Scruton’s first year in the Boys’ & Girls’ programs including archery club. The leaders at the Brigade look forward to what the future holds for this young archer.
