Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade Receives $4,600 grant from NRA

The Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade of Neenah, Wisconsin, received a $4,600 grant from the National Rifle Association of America for improvements to the Brigade rifle range.  The check was presented to Chuck Littlefield and Rick Zeumer (longtime Brigade volunteers in the rifle range program) at a Wisconsin Friends of the NRA banquet held at the Darboy Club in Appleton.  Scott Taetsch, field representative for the NRA, presented the check on behalf of the foundation.

The grant is a product of a request that was submitted by Jerry Stevens, a Brigade leader, because of a need to update old equipment and improve the quality of spotting scopes, stands, and kneeling rolls for the youth participating in the rifle range program at the Brigade.  John Dery, Brigade executive director, commented, “What a wonderful display of support to help youth experience programs that teach responsible use of firearms, firearm safety, and marksmanship, all done within the framework of building character and leadership skills.”

Other organizations utilizing the Brigade rifle range that will benefit from the grant are the Neenah-Menasha Noon Optimists club for their BB gun safety and marksmanship course, NRA sectionals, and the 4-H Club.

The NRA Foundation is the country's leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports, awarding more than $100 million since its inception in 1990.  Foundation grants provide essential program funding, ensuring the availability of quality training and educational opportunities nationwide. Grants benefit programs such as youth education, law enforcement training, hunter education, conservation, firearms and marksmanship training and safety, and much more.  Through its grant support of eligible educational programs, The NRA Foundation carries out its important educational mission across the country. Foundation grants allow shooting sports-related programs to develop, expand, and enhance their educational curricula to deliver valuable services to millions of Americans.

The Brigade mission is: We Build Leaders. Character development and leadership programs are offered for sixth through twelfth grade youth at the Brigade building located at 109 W. Columbian Avenue in Neenah, Wisconsin.  Summer camp experiences are offered at Onaway Island in Waupaca, Wisconsin.  Youth are served by hundreds of adult volunteer leaders.  For more information on how to join or become a volunteer visit Brigade’s website at www.bgbrigade.com or call (920) 725-3983.
